Kenyan women produce Hearts exclusive designs and are given hope for the future through Fair Trade labor and an alliance with the Fair Trade Federation. For each handmade item sold, these artisans earn a commission on top of their standard monthly income. This means that the production of each one-of-a-kind accessory provides an income five times that of the average worker in Kenya. Artisans are provided with free lunch at their studio as well as coverage of medical expenses for their entire family. The community that crafts these pieces takes pride in aiding in the reduction of waste. These treasures are not only beautiful representations of the benefits of recycling, but also serve to empower Kenyan women, both of which are at the center of Hearts' philosophy.
